Aggregates-1

Aggregates
Aggregates
 Introduction
Aggregates are the inert materials that are mixed in fixed proportion with cementing material to produce concrete
These act as fillers or volume increasing components on the one hand and are responsible for strength hardness and durability of the concrete on the other hand
Most of the aggregates used are naturally e or curing aggregates such as coarsed rock, gravel and coarse sand
Artificial and processed aggregates may be broken break or crushed air-cooled blast furnace slag
These aggregate are bound together by means of cement
Properties of good aggregates
Following are the desirable properties for requirement of a a good aggregates
  It should be chemically inert
the aggregate should be sufficiently strong to withstand the stress developed due to the wheel loads of the traffic
It should process is sufficient toughness two with stand impact and vibratory loads
The aggregate should be responsibility hard to offer resistance to the actions of of abrasion and attrition
It should be strong enough to wear compressive and normal tensile load in ordinary concrete
It should process is sufficient hardness to resist scratching and abstraction in the set and hardened concrete
The aggregate should be free from impurities, inorganic or organic in nature with can affect adversely on the quality of concrete
The aggregate should be capable of producing an easily workable plastic mixture on combining with concrete, water and other aggregate
Use of aggregates
The various uses of aggregates are as follow
Aggregates are generally used to make concrete
The fine aggregates serve the purpose of filling all the open space in between the course particles and thus by decreasing the the velocity of the final mass its strength is considerably increased
The function of the course aggregates is to act as the main load-bearing component of the concrete the nature of work decides the maximum size of the course aggregates
For making light-weight concrete, blast furnace slag is very suitable aggregates
Heavy congrats are specifically useful as a sales against x-ray and radiation in atomic power plants for such concrete high-density aggregates are used
Lightweight aggregates are used for lightweight concrete switch are used in sound proofing and heat proofing
Aggregates are used as road metal, ballast for railway sleepers etc

Cement-1

Introduction   Cement is a binding material  It is one of the most important engineering material of civil engineering  In almost all type of civil engineering works ,cement is used  The the ordinary cement which we commonly used is known as Portland cement  Cement in general can be divided into two types Natural cement and Artificial cement Natural cement is manufactured by during and crushing to powder the limestone containing 20-40% of clay and the remaining percentage of calcium carbonate ,magnesium carbonate etc The cement is brown in colour and sets very quickly when mixed with water The artificial cement is the which is obtained by the calcination of an intimate mixture of about 55 % calcium carbonate and 35% of clay When cement is mixed with water it form of paste which hardness and binds aggregates like sand gravel and crushed rock together to form a hard durable mass called concrete Ingredients of Portland cement Sr.no Name of ingredients Percent by we...

Properties of Cement   Following are the properties of cement  Physical properties  Mechanical properties  Chemical properties  Cement Physical properties Physical Properties Of Cement   following are the main physical properties of a good cement  physical properties primaries depend upon its chemical composition thoroghness of during and finess of grinding Fitness   the finer the cement in grain size the better is its quality  it is believed that in final grain size the cement particle react with the water more quickly and third reduce the time for hardening thereby producing a cement of high early strength Soundness   cement expand show some extent on setting  this expansion is sometimes responsible for cracking of cement after setting  sound as is the capacity of cement to from a non district grating hard and uniformly strong mask on  setting Setting of cement   it may be defined as t...
